The Saraswati veena takes its name from the four-armed goddess of knowledge and learning. Saraswati literally means "one who gives the essence (sara) of our own Self (swa)". Saraswati posseses all the learnings of the the Vedas, scriptures, dancing, musical power and poetry. The goddess Saraswati is represented as sitting on a lotus.
